Prop 8 Supporters Smear First Grade Class for attenind Teacher’s Wedding

Proponents of Prop 8 have stooped to new lows with an effort to politicize a field trip by a first grade class to toss rose petals at their teacher after she got married at San Francisco City Hall.

The problem? The teacher married another woman.

Having been slammed for past inaccuracies in their ads, Prop 8 proponents are pointing7 to the class trip as an example of how “same- would be taught in schools to young children.”

Have you no shame, Prop 8 supporters?

For a group using millions of dollars  donated by God fearing Christians, the Prop 8 campaign sure doesn’t act like Jesus when it beats up on a class of first graders.

Prop 8 proponents conveniently forget that all public school field trips require that each parent sign a permission trip before their child can step off the school rounds on a field trip.

That’s right: a parent gave permission for each of those 18 first graders to go on that field trip. But for Prop 8 supporters, parental rights only apply to those who oppose teaching tolerance in the classroom. By their book it is OK to take a kid out of a school class when tolerance is taught but not OK for parents to approve sending their kids to a field trip that displeases the Knights of Columbus or the Mormon Church.

What did those kids learn?

That there are lesbians in San Francisco!

Horrors! Who would have thought there would be lesbians in San Francisco!

And that lesbians can get married too.

No doubt the kids are scarred for life by seeing this display of and affection.

Prop 8 proponents, however, are not displaying either or affection, who claim “the public school field trip demonstrates that the California Supreme Court’s decision to legal same- has real consequences.”

Horror of horrors: kids being taught not to hate lesbians!

“Taking children out of school for a same- wedding is not customary education.  This is promoting same- and indoctrinating young kids,” said Yes on 8-Protect .com Campaign Co-Manager Frank Schubert. “I doubt the school has ever taken kids on a field trip to a traditional wedding,” Schubert said.

Horror of horrors: kids being taught lesbians have the same civil rights as straight people!

And now we get to the lies: “The Yes on 8 campaign’s ads explain that if the voters do not over turn the California Supreme Court’s same- ruling, teachers will be required to teach young children that there is no difference between and traditional .”

That is simply not true. There’s not a word in Prop 8 that speaks to setting new standards for what schools teach about . Decisions about what kids are taught about and is decided by individual school distrusts and parents have an absolute right to pull their kids out of any of these classes they choose.

Just like the parents of the 18 kids who went to a wedding have the right to decide what their kids are taught about . Even if it  offends those Prop 8 proponents who want to cram their religion down our throats.
