Palin’s debate comments on DP benefits contradicted by record
An assertion by Republican vice-presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin during last week’s debate that “no one would ever propose, not in a McCain-Palin administration, to do anything to prohibit, say, visitations in a hospital or contracts being signed” by same-sex couples reportedly contradicts her previous stance on the issue. In August 2007, Palin told Newsweek that the only reason she let stand such benefits as Alaska governor was because striking them would have violated the state’s constitution. A McCain campaign spokeswoman said Palin is against “all forms of discrimination against people with different lifestyles.” Newsweek (10/13)
