Conn. Supreme Court to Rule on Same-Sex Marriage

The court says it will rule on a lawsuit that challenges the state’s marriage law as unconstitutional because it allegedly discriminates against gay couples.

Eight same-sex couples sued in 2004, saying their constitutional rights to equal protection and due process were violated when they were denied marriage licenses.

The plaintiffs want the court to rule that the law discriminates against them because it applies only to heterosexual couples, therefore denying gay couples the financial, social and emotional benefits of marriage.

Currently, only Massachusetts and California allow same-sex couples to marry.
