I remember the run up to Nov. 22, 1963: the way conservative politicians stirred up hatred, often centered on racial divisions, in Dallas, Texas.
I remember how they incited thugs to spit on US Ambassador to the United Nations Stevenson.
And I remember how they all ran for cover after Jack Kennedy was shot, how they all decried violence, how they all insisted there was no blood on their hands.
Now John McCain is sinking to that same level of un-American race hate filled rhetoric. And once again, this action centers on racial lines.
Take a look at the video titled: Obama Hatred At McCain-Palin Rallies: “Terrorist!” “Kill Him!”
This is serious, Now that the Washington Post has reported these threats, the Secret Service is investigating them as a threat against the life of Barack Obama.
Duh.
John McCain will, it seems, do anything to win the White House. He has stripped away all of the positions that bucked the far right agenda, voted for George Bush’s policies 90 percent of the time, authorized his surrogates to use race-baiting and offered to put Sarah Plain – perhaps the least qualified person ever to run for the office of the Vice President – a heartbeat away from the oval office.
But encouraging McCain’s people to yell “Terrorist!” “Kill Him!” at McCain-Palin rallies is a step toward a repeat of Nov. 22, 1963. Failing to put a stop to this is a step toward Dallas, 1963. Overlooking this chant, this vicious deadly ploy to win the White House, shows how far John McCain has slipped from honor and the hero he once was.
Now is the time for those who truly care about America to speak out and support Barack Obama. We cannot afford the damage another Nov. 22 would do to this country or to the brave man and his family who offer America a chance to live up to our promise of “liberty and justice for all.”
