State House Gathering Doesn’t Represent View of Majority, Says Group

Statement of Anne Stanback, Love Makes a Family Executive Director:
In response to Anti-Gay Rally at State Capitol

Marriage is about commitment. It’s about responsibility. And it’s about being able to take care of the one you love.  There are thousands of same-sex couples in Connecticut who have made a lifelong commitment to each other and simply want the state to allow them the dignity and respect—as well as the legal protections—that marriage provides.

A majority of Connecticut voters support marriage for gay and lesbian couples because they believe we should do everything we can to help these couples take care of each other. The Family Institute of Connecticut is simply out of touch with what the average Connecticut citizen believes. Fortunately, the intolerant message of today’s rally represents a minority view that is continually shrinking.
