Gov. Charlie Crist is riding high while a proposed state constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage is falling short, according to a new poll.
The new Quinnipiac Univeristy poll shows Crist with a 61 percent approval rating among Floridians. Only 25 percent disapprove.
The poll also finds that a proposed state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage is supported by 55 percent of voters — short of the 60 percent needed to amend the constitution. Three months ago, the amendment defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman was supported by 58 percent of voters.
Quinnipiac surveyed 1,427 Florida voters last Tuesday through Thursday. The poll has a 2.6 percent margin of error.
