Out Actor Sir Ian McKellen Takes On Homophobic Catholic Bishop

In remarks given at St Aloysius college in Glasgow, Scotland earlier this year, Bishop Joseph Devine attacked recent advancements in the gay and lesbian movement and suggested that 100 years ago Sir Ian McKellen would have been imprisoned for being gay rather than being honored by the Queen as he will be this year. The homophobic comments have inspired fervent responses from both McKellen and fellow out British actor Simon Callow.
