Dearth of gay candidates on Nov. ballot

Apparently, 2008 will not see another “Lavender Sweep” at the ballot box in San Francisco. The list of qualified candidates released by the elections department following the August 8 filing deadline shows only two openly gay candidates running for the Board of Supervisors, and they’re up against each other in District 9.
There are no out LGBT candidates running for school board the first time that has happened in at least a decade or community college board, though that body has openly gay Trustee Lawrence Wong, who is not up for re-election.
