Gordon Brown and campaigners, including the actor Sir Ian McKellen, discussed measures to tackle homophobia in schools yesterday at a meeting ahead of London’s annual Gay Pride parade.
The actor, a founder of the campaign group Stonewall, said: ‘I am very pleased that he has listened to the concerns expressed by Stonewall, particularly around issues of homophobic bullying in schools, which still blights so many young people’s lives.’
Stonewall chief executive Ben Summerskill said he wanted the government to write to every head teacher in the country asking them to address the issue.
