Kern County: If We Have to Marry Gay Couples, We Won’t Marry Anyone

Citing serious strains on their available staff, Kern County announced this week it will stop performing civil weddings altogether. The conservative California county says both gay and straight couples will now have to go elsewhere to tie the knot. The county, which includes the city of Bakersfield, made the announcement on the eve of marriage between gay and lesbian couples becoming legal in the state.
