County accidentally agrees to $26 million payoff for gay employee
Dallas Morning News, TX - 6 hours ago
I blogged yesterday about the gutless decision to run Justin Nichols, the Teen Court coordinator for Collin County, out of his job because he is gay, but it turns out that decision wasn’t just gutless, it was hasty and stupid, too.

The severance document, grudgingly made public today, says that Nichols will receive “$26,500,000.” Yep, you read that right. That’s $26.5 million. See for yourself here on page 2.

No, no. The county isn’t really so bigoted that it would pay Justin Nichols $26.5 million to keep away from its children. It only paid $26,500. I’d say in the world of still-legal discrimination, that’s a bargain.

In his rush to rid its teen court program of a homosexual employee, the county judge forgot to read this document very carefully, and I’m not just thinking of the typo. While the document clearly says Justin cannot speak negatively about the county, it does not extend that provision to his lawyer, as most other document of this type do. This is what voters get when they elect idealogues.
