The Vermont Commission on Family Recognition and Protection is due to release its report today on whether the state, which in 2000 became the first in the nation to offer civil unions, is ready to move to full marriage equality for same-sex couples. Representatives from the 11-member, state-appointed commission will meet at the Statehouse today at 3 p.m. to announce the much-anticipated results gleaned from public hearings held around the state on the issue.
Recent polls show that Vermonters are increasingly open to the idea of extending marriage to gay couples so we’re expecting the report to reflect changing attitudes in support of same-sex marriage.
