Anti-gay sentiment in our culture is prevalent and can be traumatizing. The challenge of decreasing learned shame and increasing self-love is a lifelong process, not an event. The problem comes in when a gay man embraces masculinity as a mask, a front, or facade to make themselves more acceptable, escaping the effeminate gay stereotypes that can be demeaning.
