Tesco has released a new Christmas advert featuring a same-sex couple and their baby.

The ad, called ‘Turkey, Every Which Way,’ shows a variety of families preparing and enjoying their Christmas dinners – along with a few inevitable slip-ups in the cooking.

One of the first to feature in the 60 second clip, which is the first of several festive videos for the supermarket, is two men and their baby.

As the camera pans to a man crouching by an oven with a delicious-looking bird cooking inside, he asks: “You did take the giblets out?”

His partner, holding their child, turns away.

“Giblets…” he mutters to himself, a regretful grimace etched on his face.

After the ad was released, Tesco said: “Everyone is welcome at Tesco this Christmas and we’re proud to celebrate the many ways our customers come together over the festive season.”

The Christmas campaign “will celebrate the many ways we come together at Christmas, and how food sits at the heart of it all,” the company added.

However, it’s not the first time a supermarket has casually sent out a message of inclusivity for all.

Last year, rival chain Sainsbury’s featured a gay couple for the second year in a row.

The Greatest Gift, last year’s stop-motion offering, told the story of a man who came up with an ingenious way to spend more time with his family at Christmas.

The previous year, The Pact, featured a same-sex couple who had agreed to visit both of their families on Christmas Day – pledging to only eat the main course so as not to get too full.

Speaking of the advert last year, Head of Broadcast Comms at Sainsbury’s Sarah Kilmartin said: “We wanted to reflect a modern Britain and a diverse Britain.

“That’s what we feel like we’ve done throughout the whole piece of work.

“We’ve made sure we’ve got a true reflection of what we see out there every day.”
