Rosie O’Donnell gives first interview since Trump: ‘Every Friday there’s devastation’

Rosie O’Donnell has given her first interview since President Trump took office, saying every week she hopes will be his last as President.

The TV star gave the interview with W Magazine, saying every week there is “devastation”.

It is the first interview since Trump took office, and since she and the President have taken aim at each other in a number of tweets.

She told the magazine: “I haven’t done any interviews since he’s been elected. Today’s the first day of doing interviews. I haven’t been on television doing interviews since he’s been elected, so when I do the press for this show that will be the first time, and it has taken me a full year to integrate the reality of him being a president in a way that I don’t come across as either so full of rage that no one can hear my words, or so sad that I can’t articulate the level of pain.

“It’s taken a year for me to get my equilibrium back, to come back up to the surface, to really go, ‘Okay, every Monday is the hope that this is the last week’ — and every Friday is a devastation. There are people who tell me, ‘Oh it’s going to be another year, another two years,’ and I seriously worry whether I personally will be able to live through [his presidency] and whether the nation will be able to live through it and survive. It’s a terrifying concept, on the brink of nuclear war with a madman in charge. And the ineptitude—the impotence of people who should be able to stop him claiming they can’t—is absolutely infuriating.”

Earlier this year she took aim at President-elect Donald Trump, calling him “mentally unstable”.

The star tweeted her continuing criticism of Trump on New Year’s Day.

At the time, she also suggested that the US should attempt to stop his inauguration, which is set to take place on 20 January.

She wrote: “DONALD TRUMP IS MENTALLY UNSTABLE”, linking to a CNN article in which biographer Harry Hurt III says he was thrown out of a golf course owned by Trump.

Adding: “LESS THAN 3 WEEKS TO STOP HIM AMERICA”.

In other tweets, the comedian attacked Trump as a “sick man”, a “criminal”, and called him the “worst human”.

She also tweeted another article suggesting Trump is “unfit to be President”, with the words “Donald Trump unfit to be president.”

Trump and O’Donnell have continually exchanged blows, as the comedian expresses disapproval at Trump. At the Presidential debate with Hillary Clinton, Trump attempted to humiliate O’Donnell to 84 million viewers.
O’Donnell later tweeted a poem suggesting she had been stuck in bed since the debate for days due to Trump’s words.
