X Factor’s Christopher Maloney left near death after dangerous spider bite on holiday

Former X Factor star Christopher Maloney has been hospitalised “near death” after a horrendous holiday accident.

The 2012 X Factor contestant had been holidaying in Turkey when he was bitten by a very dangerous species of spider.

The singer’s heart stopped twice in the aftermath, as the former Celebrity Big Brother contestant battled to stay alive.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Maloney was left dizzy and unwell after the spider bite.

He then collapsed and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital as his throat began to close due to anaphylactic shock.

It was thanks to a passing tourist that he survived the incident, who performed CPR on the singer in the perilous moments after the bite took effect.

Mandy Fisher, from Cambridge, is credited with saving the singer’s life for her quick thinking help.

39-year-old Maloney said: “I was just walking down the beach and I felt something hit me on my head.

“I felt dizzy and sick, but I carried on walking and then I just collapsed.

“I could feel my throat start to close up and I thought I was going to die.”

Chris said: “It was an absolutely awful experience, I have no idea how it happened.

“I was kept in hospital for observation and put on a heart monitor, before my partner Gary took me back to the hotel.”

He was unable to leave the country, which borders Syria and Iraq, for more than two weeks.

He added: “If it wasn’t for Mandy I wouldn’t be here. she acted so quickly and helped to save my life, I owe her so much.”

It’s not the first near-death experience for the scouse performer.

A spokesperson for Maloney previously said he had been hospitalised after waking up with no feeling in one of his legs following an eye lift operation.

Deep vein thrombosis is where a blood clot forms in a deep vein in the body. It can lead to pulmonary embolism where a part of the clot travels to the lung and blocks a blood vessel.

Maloney came out as gay in 2013 after appearing on the X Factor.

Fellow X Factor finalist Jaymi Hensley of the band Union J came out during the series.

Other finalists Rylan Clark and Lucy Spraggan had come out before they made their X Factor debuts.
