TV duo Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc are set to return to your screens with a remake of The Generation Game.

The hosts are set to bring the classic family game show, which debuted in 1971, back for a short four episode run.

The game invites pairs of family members of different generations on to play the game.

The ultimate goal is to get to the legendary conveyor belt and get the chance to take home prizes.

The pair has said that they are incredibly “excited” for the return of the show.

They said: “It’s a cuddly toy, it’s a toaster, it’s a circular power saw, no it’s MEL AND SUE DOING THE GENERATION GAME! We can’t believe it, we are so excited!”

Those in charge of creating the “iconic” come back have said that Sue and Mel were the only hosts who could justify the role, which was held for the longest time by Sir Bruse Forsyth.

Kate Phillips, Controller Entertainment Commissioning, said: “We’re so thrilled to be bringing back this much-loved show to BBC One. With the marvellous Mel and Sue at the helm, it promises to be a real treat for all generations.”

Guy Freeman, Editor, Special Events and Formats BBC Studios, says: “When asked, this is the TV show that viewers most wanted to see back on their screens and so we are thrilled to be able to make that happen with Mel and Sue, who I know will have just as much fun hosting it as contestants will playing it.”

Sue and Mel recently departed from their hosting roles on the Great British Bake Off after it was announced that the show would be moving to Channel 4.

Bake Off fans were already furious with the news that the reality show, which has aired on the BBC since 2010, would be leaving the broadcaster.

Perkins recently opened up about coming to terms with her sexuality and said that she felt like she needed to “throw up” when she first realised she was a lesbian.

She said: “I came to my evolution quite late. I just thought, ‘I just want to throw up’. I was in love.”

Perkins is now dating Naked Attraction host Anna Richardson.

She recently opened up about their “magical” relationship.

She said of first meeting Richardson: “There was something sort of magical in the air – there was. We have a real laugh, that’s the thing.

“That’s what I want – I want joy in my life, and I’m lucky to have it.”

It is not yet clear when the remake of The Generation Game will air.
