These are the first nominees for the PinkNews Awards 2017
Tonight, at an event at Speaker’s House, PinkNews announced the shortlist for the first three categories of the 2017 PinkNews Awards.
The awards aim to recognise the contributions of businesses, charities, politicians, campaigners and journalists towards achieving LGBT+ equality both in the UK and overseas.
The three categories announced were the Business Equality Award, the Public Sector Equality Award and the Third Sector Equality Award.
A judging panel will decide the winner in each category, which will be announced at the PinkNews Awards ceremony.
Nominations have also been opened in the remaining categories – Advertising Campaign of the Year, Broadcaster of the Year, Campaigner of the Year, Community Group of the Year, Peer of the Year and Member of the Year.

The annual PinkNews Awards has become one of the UK’s most significant LGBT+ events, recognising the contributions of politicians, campaigners, charities, businesses, public sector employers, broadcasters and journalists towards achieving LGBT+ equality both in the UK and overseas.
At last year’s event, guests included Victoria Derbyshire and Susana Reid, who jointly picked up the Broadcast Award on behalf of Good Morning Britain and The Victoria Derbyshire Show.
David Cameron was presented the Ally of the Year Award, receiving unlikely praise from one of the keynote speakers, Jeremy Corbyn.
Speakers at last year’s event included the Education Secretary Justine Greening, the Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott, House of Commons Speaker John Bercow, Olympian Tom Bosworth and EastEnders star Danny-Boy Hatchard.
This year marks the fifth year of the PinkNews Awards, as well as the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales.
