Harry Styles opens up about his sexuality

Harry Styles has opened up about his sexuality.

The singer has always stayed coy on the subject, but has long spoken out in support of LGBT rights.

Now, the international superstar has said he’s never felt the need to label himself.

Styles, 23, who is currently on a hiatus from being part of boyband One Direction, explained to The Sun: “It’s weird for me – everyone should just be who they want to be.

“It’s tough to justify somebody having to answer to someone else about stuff like that.”

He backed Wrecking Ball singer Miley Cyrus for coming out as pansexual, saying: “Being in a creative field, it’s important to be progressive.

“People doing stuff like that is great.”

But Styles said he would not be joining her in defining his sexuality.

Asked if he has ever labelled himself, he said: “No, I’ve never felt the need to really. No.

“I don’t feel like it’s something I’ve ever felt like I have to explain about myself.”

The Sign of the Times singer, who released his first solo album on Friday, also hinted he may still be friends with ex-girlfriend and pop sensation Taylor Swift.

“Everyone should be friends, right?” he cheekily remarked.

Styles, who has his first acting role in a feature film, Dunkirk, in July, has long been an enthusiastic advocate for the LGBT community.

In 2014, he showed his support for out NFL star Michael Sam while performing at a One Direction concert, by wearing the American football player’s St Louis Rams jersey.

And he also said his partner being female was “not that important” to him, after remarking about dating men: “Hey, don’t knock it ’til you try it.”

Two years ago, he ran around on stage during a New York concert in a Pride flag, prompting cheers from the audience.

Earlier this year, he said on French TV that LGBT rights were fundamental, not political.

“Stuff like equality feels much more fundamental,” he said. “I feel like everyone is equal.

“That doesn’t feel like politics to me.”

He also reacted on The Graham Norton Show to rumours he had had sex with President Barack Obama, joking: “I’m legally not allowed to say.”

Asked if he wants to see a photo of the former POTUS for a reminder, he joked: “Don’t, it hurts!”
