Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler accused of pushing an ‘aggressive gay agenda’

An evangelical group has accused stars including Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Tom Hanks of pushing a radical gay agenda.

The Liberty Counsel made the extraordinary claim after a telethon was announced to raise money for the American Civil Liberties Union, which has led a string of legal challenges against the Trump administration.

The event, which will stream via Facebook Live later this week, will raise funds for the ACLU’s work to “hold off the worst of the abuses” and challenge “unconstitutional and wrong-headed policies and executive orders”.

Stand for Rights will feature appearances by Tina Fey, Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Ellie Kemper, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski and Jon Hamm.

All of the involved stars are now under fire from the Liberty Counsel – the law firm most famous for representing anti-gay Kentucky clerk Kim Davis.

The Liberty Counsel warned that “Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Tom Hanks are joining forces [to] “lend their star power to a modern-day telethon benefiting the American Civil Liberties Union”.

They explained: “It seems that the ACLU’s war chest of over $80 million raised since the 2016 elections still isn’t enough to advance their leftist agenda. Now they’re pulling in Hollywood elitists to put more money in their coffer.

“Their radical agenda includes an aggressive pro-LGBTQ campaign that includes fighting against any religious liberty protections that they deem to be ‘antigay’ offered by President Trump or Congress.

“The ACLU is already attempting to overturn President Trump’s revocation of the former president’s ‘Bathroom Directive’.”

Appealing for donations to fight for their homophobic cause, the Liberty Counsel added: “The Hollywood stars may be aligned for the ACLU, but we know the God who created all of the stars in heaven. And, we know that God has raised up Liberty Counsel for such a time as this.”

The American Civil Liberties Union recently filed a Freedom of Information challenge with the Trump administration to obtain a copy of a rumoured draft executive order on anti-LGBT discrimination.

The Liberty Counsel rose to national prominence after providing free legal representation to embattled Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, when she refused to carry out her duties because of same-sex marriage.

The group has more recently been secretly helping Republican lawmakers draft anti-LGBT legislation in a number of states, leading to a wave of anti-LGBT ‘conscience’ bills and ‘bathroom laws’ that exploit transgender issues as an excuse to strip back anti-discrimination protections.

The group has shockingly anti-LGBT views, however. Its head Mat Staver recently falsely claimed that first responders at last year’s Pulse nightclub shooting have to “get tested for AIDS-related conditions” because of the blood of gay victims.

They have also claimed the United States might be destroyed unless you give them money.
