Trump’s pastor threatens music legend with ‘death sentence’ for funding LGBT charities

Donald Trump’s inaugural pastor has claimed that music legend Grace Slick has earned a “death sentence” by funding groups that battle for LGBT rights.

Grace Slick, the legend behind timeless hits including ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’ and ‘We Built This City’, revealed last week that she was donating her royalties from notoriously homophobic restaurant chain Chick-fil-A to fight for LGBT equality.

After the anti-gay chicken chain used her music in an advert, Slick gave the proceeds to Lambda Legal, the largest national legal organization working to advance the civil rights of LGBTQ people.

The news hasn’t gone down well with Franklin Graham, the head of Christian charity Samaritan’s Purse, who was invited to preach to millions at Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony last month.

Taking to Facebook, he wrote: “She certainly has the right to do that, it’s her money, she earned it [but] what I want Grace and others to know is that Almighty God created and defined marriage in His Word.

“Any sexual relationship outside of marriage between a man and a woman is sin, and all sin carries a death sentence.”

He added: “Jesus is willing to forgive the sin in our lives if we will call on Him in faith. He is the only one who can bring the healing and transformation our hearts need.

“Grace, it’s my hope and prayer that you will put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ because He loves you very much.”

Graham is the President of international charity Samaritan’s Purse. He is listed as a trustee of Samaritan’s Purse UK, which runs the annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

Last year Graham declared gay people are ‘the enemy’, attacking churches that have become LGBT-inclusive.

He accused LGBT activists of “trying to cram down America’s throat the lie that homosexuality is okay”, alleging that anti-discrimination laws will mean that “your children, and your grandchildren will be at risk to sexual predators and perverts”.

In a 2015 interview with a Russian newspaper, Graham praised Vladimir Putin’s support for anti-gay laws – and claimed that homosexuals “take people’s children”.

Parroting disturbing rhetoric often used by anti-LGBT vigilantes in Russia, he said: “Homosexuals cannot have children, they can take other people’s children.”

He added: “I very much appreciate that President Putin is protecting Russian young people against homosexual propaganda. If only to give them the opportunity to grow up and make a decision for themselves.”
