Authorities are investigating a suspected hate crime – after a swastika made of human faeces was found smeared across gender-neutral bathroom.

The horrific incident occurred at the Rhode Island School of Design, in a bathroom that had been designated as gender-neutral to cater for transgender students.

A student at the university made the gross discovery – finding that someone had smeared a large Nazi symbol using human waste.

Authorities are treating the incident as a hate crime.

Student Rory Hernandez told WJAR: “That could be somebody’s safe space. So I don’t think that’s right in any bathroom, especially a transgender bathroom.

“It’s kind of disgusting, actually, and really sad that somebody would go to that length to kind of express their frustration or some kind of angst or mental disease.”

Authorities at Rhode Island School of Design are treating the incident as a hate crime.

They said: “This level of disrespect and vitriol is completely unacceptable and RISD Public Safety is investigating it as both an act of vandalism and a crime of hate.”

Hernandez added that there have been a string of poo-related incidents at the university, which started out as student pranks.

He said: “There have people using their own fecal matter in a harmful way in the bathrooms, in the showers, all over the bathroom.”
