More than 50 lesbian couples have tied the knot in a mass wedding at ‘Bride Pride’

The ceremony took place earlier this month at Bride Pride in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

A total of 106 people took part in the mass wedding at the event, with 53 same-sex couples tying the knot.

The women gathered on the lawn of LGBT-friendly B&B Roux, owned by hosts Alli Baldwin and Ilene Mitnick, who came up with the idea when deciding to renew their own vows.

The ceremony was officiated by out comic Kate Clinton, who also remarried partner Urvashi Vaid at the event.

25 of the couples were marrying for the first time, with the remainder renewing their vows.

Mrs Mitnick told Yahoo: “Alli and I wanted a quiet renewal of our vows, but we’re really passionate about bringing women into town.”

“There was such joy and love — it was a beautiful event.”

Participants had travelled from as far away as Michigan, Florida and California to take part in the event. One couple drove 20 hours from Tennessee to the event, as their marriage would not be supported by their families.

Mitnick added: “[Same-sex marriage] is legal everywhere, but it’s not easy everywhere.

“We knew it was a reality that people live in places where it’s difficult to be themselves, but to be hit with that was very moving.”

In 2014, 70 couples took part in a mass wedding in London, to celebrate the introduction of same-sex marriage.

The London event, which saw 15 same-sex couples and 55 mixed-sex couples tie the knot, was part of a Festival of Love programme to celebrate marriage equality.
