However, it seems the media’s coverage of the crime upset the Scream Queens star more than the actual crime itself.

Haynes – who often shares intimate details of his life on a range of social media outlets – initially revealed details of the crime via SnapChat.

“Even though someone broke into my house and stole a bunch of my stuff, that’s not going to get me down,” he reassured fans.

Following his post, gossip site TMZ were quick to report the crime – but Haynes was not happy.

This time he took to Twitter to express his annoyance at the website’s report on his previous social media post.

“My home was broken into a few days ago & a lot was stolen. I am ok,” he told his 1.86 million followers.

“I don’t understand why it’s necessary that my personal info is on TMZ,” Haynes added.

TMZ also reported that the burglars took thousands of dollars of worth of goods after breaking in through the garage.

It is alleged that they stole between $5,000 and $6,000 worth of property – including a television and computer.

Haynes – who became a fan favourite in TV shows Teen Wolf and Arrow – came out in May this year in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, after years of tabloid speculation regarding his sexuality.

In August, the actor fought back tears as he revealed his emotional coming out journey whilst accepting a Visibility Award from the Human Rights Campaign in Seattle.
