Republican congressman Louis Gohmert has claimed that God might have flooded the world in Biblical times because of gay marriage.
Gohmert sits in the House of Representatives for Texas’s First Congressional District, and is one of the most anti-LGBT politicians in Congress.
In an appearance on a Christian radio show this week snipped by Right Wing Watch, Gohmert spoke to anti-LGBT activist Janet Porter, and reflected on her suggestion that God caused The Great Flood in the Bible because of homosexuality.
Gohmert recalled: “According to the Babylonian Talmud, there’s only one other time in history when homosexual marriage was practised.
“It wasn’t the time of Sodom and Gomorrah, although homosexuality was rampant, it wasn’t in Babylon or even Ancient Greece… the only other time in history where homosexual unions were authorised as marriage was in the ‘Days of Noah.’”
“We know homosexuality was widespread in Greece and Rome and Babylon and especially in Sodom and Gomorrah, but that’s a little scary that it wasn’t legal except before the flood.”
Porter says: “This was the issue that led to the flood and that this will be a sign of what’s to come that ‘as it was in the days of Noah so it will be in the coming of the Son of Man.
“If we don’t correct this we, then we are crying out for judgment, we are crying out for the end of the world as we know it. This is serious stuff because it matters to God.”
