Rosie O’Donnell ‘couldn’t leave her house for days’ after Trump’s debate attacks

Rosie O’Donnell has opened up about her depression – and not being able to leave bed for days after Donald Trump attacked her during a Presidential debate.

Mr Trump faced off against Hillary Clinton last week ahead of next month’s Presidential election.

During the debate Clinton took the opportunity to condemn Trump’s years of shocking comments about women, saying: “This is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs. Someone who has said pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers, who has said women don’t deserve equal pay unless they do as good a job as men. One of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest – he loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them. He called this woman Miss Piggy, and called her Miss Housekeeping because she was Latino.”

However, the billionaire reality TV star-turned-politician brushed off the question and instead took the opportunity to continue his spat with out comedian Rosie O’Donnell, humiliating her in front of 84 million viewers.

He said: “Some of it was said in entertainment, some of it was said to somebody who has been very vicious to me, Rosie O’Donnell, I said very tough things to her and I think everyone would agree that she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her.”

In a poem this week, O’Donnell confessed that she felt so depressed and humiliated after the debate, she barely left her bed for days.

She wrote:
“i am tired
this is the first time i have been out

out of bed really – to be honest
since the debate
i have been sleeping a lot
depression clings to me

it’s hard to walk
to shower
to try
to care”.

The poem continues to recall a chance meeting with Mr Trump’s daughter Ivanka in a New York restaurant.

She wrote: “i walked the 5 steps toward her table
introduced myself
she smiled genuinely
her husband was warm and gracious

i told her of my children
some truths about myself
my pain and shame
she was absurdly kind

‘“i just wanted u to know’
i said in a shaky quiet voice
i then made my way down the large wooden stairway
into my waiting car

it has comforted me
on my darkest days
when my inner voices scream
u deserved it

as her father has
same as my own”

Trump made a similar ‘joke’ in the Republican primaries, when Fox’s Megyn Kelly asked why he had “called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals”.

Trump responded to Kelly’s accusations: “Only Rosie O’Donnell.” He later claimed Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever”.

In 2011, Trump ‘congratulated’ O’Donnell on her new relationship by tweeting: “I feel sorry for Rosie’s new partner in love whose parents are devastated at the thought of their daughter being with [Rosie]–a true loser.”
