Donald Trump insists he was justified in calling Rosie O’Donnell a fat pig

In the first Presidential debate with Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump has defended calling out comic Rosie O’Donnell a ‘fat pig’.

Mr Trump faced off with the former Secretary of State for the first time last night ahead of November’s election.

Clinton took the opportunity to condemn Trump’s years of shocking comments about women.

She said: “This is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs. Someone who has said pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers, who has said women don’t deserve equal pay unless they do as good a job as men. One of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest – he loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them. He called this woman Miss Piggy, and called her Miss Housekeeping because she was Latino.

Trump hit back: “Some of it was said in entertainment, some of it was said to somebody who has been very vicious to me, Rosie O’Donnell, I said very tough things to her and I think everyone would agree that she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her.”

The billionaire reality TV star-turned-politician has a long-running spat with out comedian Rosie O’Donnell, repeatedly mocking her weight and appearance.

He made a similar ‘joke’ in the Republican primaries, when Megyn Kelly asked why he had “called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals”.

Trump responded to Kelly’s accusations: “Only Rosie O’Donnell.” He later claimed Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever”.

In 2011, Trump ‘congratulated’ O’Donnell on her new relationship by tweeting: “I feel sorry for Rosie’s new partner in love whose parents are devastated at the thought of their daughter being with [Rosie]–a true loser.”
