The usually covered up Rinder thrived whilst showing off his abs and the crowd certainly loved it as he received a standing ovation at the end of his dance.

The judge, who lives with his husband, Seth Cummings, recently revealed why he was taking part in this years show.

Rinder said: “I’m a private secret dancer and I love to dance. The main reason is as my grandparents get older it’s a show they absolutely love.”

“Although they’ve always been unconditionally proud of me I think there is something magical about being able to take part in something which gives them such joy and escapism especially as they suffer from all sorts of illnesses.”

“No doubt the judges will be as fair, kind and thoughtful as me (especially the charming Craig Revel Horwood). I shall await their verdicts,” he added.

Rinder married his partner Seth Cummings in a civil ceremony officiated by actor Benedict Cumberbatch on the island of Ibiza in 2013.

He is the second openly gay contestant in this year’s Strictly line-up, joining Will Young who confirmed his place on the show before Rinder.

Fans had hoped the two gay contestants would be paired with a same-sex partner after Judge Craig Revel Horwood had hinted it might be a possibility.

“I was rather hoping for a same sex couple – I doubt that it’ll happen this year. But I’d love it to happen because that might put a spanner in the works” Horwood said.

It was confirmed that neither celebrity would be paired with a same-sex dance partner when the BBC revealed that Young would be paired with a female professional dance partner.
A statement said: “The show has chosen the traditional Latin and Ballroom format of mixed-sex couples.”

Rinder and Young join pop legend Anastacia, former Labour MP Ed Balls, Laura Whitmore, Ore Oduba, Melvin Odoom, Louise Redknapp, Danny Mac, Daisy Lowe and Naga Munchetty on this year’s show.
