Hillary Clinton shut down audience members on Jimmy Kimmel Live who laughed at Trump quotes insulting Rosie O’Donnell.

Billionaire reality TV star-turned-Republican Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has a long-running spat with out comedian Rosie O’Donnell, repeatedly mocking her weight and appearance.

Trump’s Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton was dragged into the spat during an appearance on late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live, when she was challenged to read Trump quotes without laughing.

Kimmel explained: “We have a fishbowl and it’s got real quotes from Donald Trump. My challenge to you is, can you read these with a straight face, without cracking a smile?”

Clinton initially good-naturedly took part in the segment, reading quotes from Trump claiming he is “never wrong” and that he is “the one that really broke the glass ceiling on behalf of women”.

But things got out of hand when she unwittingly picked a quote about the former View panellist.

She read Trump’s comment: “If I were running The View, I’d fire Rosie O’Donnell. I’d look right in that fat, ugly face of hers. I’d say Rosie, you’re fired.”

As a few members of the audience began to titter, a clearly-appalled Clinton said: “That’s not funny. Nope, that’s not funny.”

Clinton continued: “But that’s the whole deal. Do you want a ‘You’re Fired’ President or a ‘You’re Hired’ President?”

She then politely refused to continue the segment after being presented with the next quote, “I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”

Clinton told Kimmel: “I can’t read this. I can’t read it. I’m not reading that.”

O’Donnell said on Twitter that she was “disappointed” that Clinton read the quote, but it is unclear if the candidate was aware of its content in advance. From her face, we’re guessing no.
