A transgender woman was left hospitalised after being attacked with a hammer.
The incident occurred early on Wednesday (August 17) In New York and is being treated as a possible hate crime by police.
The 28-year-old victim was walking along a street in Queens at around 6am, when a man approached her from behind and struck her with a hammer.
It was reported that he then yelled: “This is what you get for being gay!”
The woman suffered severe bleeding and was taken to hospital, but police have said she has now been released.
The attacker is still at large and police have yet to identify or arrest any potential suspects.
