Barbra Streisand to headline Clinton fundraiser targeting LGBT donors

Barbra Streisand will perform at an LGBT-targeted fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in September.

Singer, actress, and gay icon Barbra Streisand is set to headline a fundraising event for Hillary Clinton that is targetted at LGBT donors.

According to an invitation obtained by Buzzfeed News, the event is called “LGBT for Hillary” and will take place on September 9 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

LGBT for Hillary will benefit the Hillary Victory Fund – a joint fundraising committee consisting of Hillary for America, the Democratic National Committee, and 33 state parties.

The invitation, which features a rainbow H logo, says dinner tickets start at $1,200 (£920) and go up to $250,000 (£191,105).

Donors who offer up six figures receive a meet-and-greet reception with the Democratic nominee.

Barbra-Streisand

Streisand has long been a Hillary supporter, writing an essay criticizing sexism directed at Clinton and defending her against people critical of her speeches in front of Wall Street bankers and hedge fund managers.

On the opening night of her nine-city tour, she brought along magician and mentalist Lior Suchard and used the opportunity to make a quick comment about Trump: “The only person whose mind he can’t read is Donald Trump’s because he doesn’t have one.”

She continued, “He’s putting his foot in his mouth every day now, so I’m happy.”

In 2014, Out Magazine declared Streisand one of the “12 greatest female gay icons of all time.”

However, that same year playwright Larry Kramer claimed that the singer is “uncomfortable” with gay sex, and held up production of the AIDS drama The Normal Heart because she found it “distasteful”.
