A Zumba instructor who was injured in the Orlando shooting has danced for the first time since.

Orlando Zumba enthusiast Angel Colon was severely injured in June’s Orlando Massacre, when a gunman opened fire in the packed Pulse gay club – killing 49 people and injuring more than 50. The majority of the victims were LGBT people of Latin and Hispanic heritage.

Mr Colon only survived the attack thanks to police officer Omar Delgado – who helped pull the collapsed dancer out of the club and ensured he got immediate medical attention.

But less than two months on, he has made an incredible recovery.

He made an appearance at the Zumba Instructor Network conference which was coincidentally taking place in Orlando.

Mr Colon appeared with Officer Delgado at the conference, and poignantly danced to ‘Love Make the World Go Round’ – the Orlando tribute song recorded by Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda in the wake of the tragedy.

The Zumba dancer said: “Thank you guys so much for being here this weekend, it means a lot to me.

“This past month has been the worst month of my life, but going through this there’s been nothing but love and support from everyone.”

Officer Delgado told him: “I’m amazed and I’m so proud of you… how much progress you’ve made.

“That night, you were in so much pain.

“That second that you moved and I just happened to look your way, it created a bond between you and me.

“We will always be brothers and no matter how long it takes for you to get well, I’m going to be by your side.”
