Madonna has been accused of sexual harassment for pulling down the top of a female fan during a concert.
The Papa Don’t Preach singer, as well as dressing as a clown and riding a trike, pulled down the fan’s top at the Brisbane leg of her tour.
17-year-old Josephine Georgiou was asked to join the 57-year-old on stage at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
“She’s the kind of girl you just want to slap on the ass,” Madonna said. “And pull,” she went on, pulling down her strapless top, momentarily revealing her breast.
Seemingly surprised at how loose the top was, and how easily it came down, the singer went on: “Oh, sh*t! I’m so sorry, sexual harassment… You can do the same to me.” She also wished her “good luck,” as her top was much more securely attached to her body.
But Georgiou saw the funny side, telling the Courier Mail: “Seriously, why would I sue Madonna for the best moment of my life?”
“It was the best night”, she added.
Her admission poured cold water on speculation that Madonna could face a sexual harassment charge over the incident.
According to some sources, Australian lawyers had been considering whether the case constituted sexual harassment. One writer said the incident represents a ‘double standard’ in society.
Many have taken to social media to express outrage while others defended the star.
“She was calling me a Victoria’s Secret model the whole time I was on stage, which is so flattering,” Josephine continued.
She added: “Only I get to decide if I’m humiliated or not. Why would people assume I am humiliated by my own breast, nipple or body?”
This is not the first time Madonna has caused controversy on her Australian tour, however so far it has mainly been linked to her lateness when appearing across the country.
She has also been criticised for appearing as a clown in the ‘Tears of a Clown’ show.
The star is currently embroiled in a custody battle with ex-husband Guy Ritchie over their son Rocco.
Madonna performed to a backdrop of a picture of Rocco in Melbourne, and said: “Everybody knows the saga of me and my son Rocco. It’s not a fun story to tell or think about,.
“I probably would have enjoyed myself a bit more on this tour if he hadn’t disappeared so suddenly. I’m going to dedicate this song to him,” she added.
