Ted Cruz ‘calls in sick’ to avoid rally with extremist who blamed Holocaust on gay people

Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz was apparently too ill to attend a campaign rally alongside an extremist anti-LGBT activist who blames gay people for the Holocaust.

Cruz is currently trailing Donald Trump in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination, but his campaign has been bolstered as the Republican mainstream unites against Trump.

The Republican Senator has repeatedly faced questions about his links to anti-LGBT extremists – which only intensified last week when it emerged he invited Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association to a planned rally in Ellisville, Mississippi.

Fischer has a long history of disturbing anti-LGBT rhetoric, blaming gay people for the Holocaust and claiming that freedom of religion only applies to Christians.

The activist, who has claimed that Hillary Clinton is a lesbian and called for homosexuality to be re-criminalised, insists that “Hitler himself was an active homosexual” and gays were “at the heart” of the Nazi party.

He insists: “Hitler recruited around him homosexuals to make up his Stormtroopers, they were his enforcers, they were his thugs.

“Hitler discovered that he could not get straight soldiers to be savage and brutal and vicious enough to carry out his orders, but that homosexual soldiers basically had no limits and the savagery and brutality they were willing to inflict on whomever Hitler sent them after. So he surrounded himself, virtually all of the Stormtroopers, the Browshirts, were male homosexuals.”

Senator Cruz has ducked calls to condemn Fischer, and also declined to un-invite him from the event.

Instead, he called in sick – and State Senator Chris McDaniel was left to break the news to supporters and the Biloxi Sun Herald over the weekend.

He said: “I got a call from the national campaign chairman and he said he’s known Cruz for a long time and [Cruz] is very very ill.

“He wants to try to come. He’s been to the doctor, he got the shots, the regimen, whatever they do to treat it, and he’s still hoping to make a pop-in but there’s no way he could make it to a full rally. It sounded like he was miserable.”

“The event at (Jones County Junior College) has been cancelled. Ted Cruz will not be in Mississippi tomorrow, as he evidently does not feel well.

“This is difficult news to deliver, but we trust that God has a plan for the campaign and for Mississippi.”

Clearly the prayers worked – as Cruz appeared to have made a miraculous recovery, as he was well enough to attend a number of campaign events on Tuesday and Wednesday, landing an endorsement from Carly Fiorina at a Miami rally.

Fischer has also rallied against inclusivity in the Boy Scouts of America, claiming the organisation should be renamed the “Boy Sodomisers of America”

The pundit was even ‘sacked’ last year by the American Family Association for his extreme comments after questions were raised about the group’s close ties with Republicans – though the ‘sacking’ was derided as a bogus PR stunt when it was emerged Fischer continues to host his AFA radio show.

Fischer revealed: “On Monday, Senator Cruz, for those of you that are interested, will be in the Ellisville area, and I’ve been invited to address a few words that’s gathered there at noon.”

The news will probably be interesting to Caitlyn Jenner, who said last week that she could serve as Mr Cruz’ trans ambassador.
