A surprising number of straight men enjoy using sex toys to masturbate
A recent study has revealed that more straight men are using sex toys when masturbating.
Almost a quarter of men – both straight and gay – have used sex toys including dildos and butt plugs while masturbating, a new survey has found.
Presenting her findings at a sexual science conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico last November, psychologist Allison Kirschbaum asked hundreds of men about their habits of self-pleasure according to Mel Magazine.
It was found that 24% of all men, both gay and straight had “inserted an object” into their anus, while 35.3% had engaged in nipple play and 32.2% had used a vibrator.
In addition, just over two thirds (66.4%) had rubbed their genitals on a surface while almost half of respondents (47.7%) had used a shower jet.
Statistically, if 6-10% of men identify as gay or bisexual, the findings would point to at least 14-18% of heterosexual men agreeing they enjoyed anal penetration during masturbation.
Kirschbaum says she hopes her findings will encourage more to experiment sexually.
Earlier this year, another survey found that the number of straight men who have had gay sex is surprisingly high.
The survey – conducted by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention – asked respondents about the types of sexual experiences they have had and whether they are attracted to the same or opposite sex.
The 9,000 respondents – aged between 18 and 44 – were also asked how they chose to label their sexual orientations.
Results showed that the number of straight men who have had sex with another man had risen significantly – with 2.3 percent of men engaging in same-sex sexual activity identifying as heterosexual.
Last year, a similar study found that half of all young people in the UK do not identify as 100% straight.
YouGov asked 1632 people to plot themselves on a Kinsey scale of sexuality, from 0 (exclusively heterosexual) to 6 (exclusively homosexual).
Just 46% of young people (aged 18-24) would rank themselves as 0 (exclusively heterosexual) – compared to 49% who picked something else.
