Caitlyn Jenner settles lawsuit over fatal car crash
Caitlyn Jenner has settled a lawsuit over a car crash which killed a woman.
In February, shortly before coming out as transgender, the former Olympian and TV reality star was involved in a car pile-up on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, which killed one person and injured seven others.
Ms Jenner has faced legal action on a number of fronts over the incident, with the family of deceased woman Kimberly Howe filing one lawsuit, Hollywood talent manager Jessica Marie Steindorff filing a second, and a family of five who were injured filing a third.
It was reported by TMZ today that Jenner has settled her case with Steindorff out-of-court.
The amount of the settlement has not been disclosed – but the Hollywood talent manager had been seeking sizable compensation for property damage, lost wages and medical expenses, alongside punitive damages of $25,000.
The gossip site reports that Jenner’s insurance company will pay the settlement, and that the money will not come from her own pocket.
The other two cases are yet to reach a settlement.
Jenner, who was going by her former name at the time of the crash, declared the incident a “tragedy” in her only statement about the incident.
She said: “My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident.
“It is a devastating tragedy, and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible.”
Jenner has had a tumultuous year aside from the crash, struggling with a tumbling reality show audience while pushing for trans rights.
The reality star has come under fire for her conservative views – previously attempting to explain her past opposition to same-sex marriage in an interview with Ellen.
She also recently met and prayed with with a pastor who led the charge in repealing an LGBT rights law, provoking an angry response from LGBT fans.
