Republican who believes it’s Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve found on gay dating site Adam4Adam
A Republican who backed religious freedom laws but opposed an anti-discrimination ordinance has been found to have a profile on a gay dating site.
Brent Randall, a City Council candidate in Goshen, Indiana, had strongly objected to the city’s LGBT rights ordinance protecting people from discrimination based on sexual orientation.
However, The Goshen News reports that Randall, who was married to a woman for 22 years before divorcing, has a profile on gay dating site Adam4Adam.
He confirmed to the paper that it was his profile, but does not consider himself gay or bisexual.
The Republican said: “My life has changed a lot over the last six years since my divorce. [The profile is] still active. I do check it.
“I do talk to people. I’ve never met anybody from that profile. I do enjoy meeting new people of all different walks of life.
“I don’t even know if I consider myself bisexual or not… I just experimented a little since I was single again.”
However, Randall claims that there is no need for further anti-discrimination laws, despite ‘religious freedom’ laws that allow businesses and employers to discriminate.
He said: “I still believe in my heart of hearts that our gay and lesbian communities are protected currently under the law.
“If there are cases that need to be brought, let’s bring them. I don’t know why they feel they need special protections when there are other categories that might need protections.
“My little experimentation over the last six years hasn’t changed my view on that.”
Despite his claims, there are no anti-discrimination protections in Indiana state law.
