The film version of the hit BBC show is on the hunt for ‘draggy, camp fantastic looking queers’.

After actress Joanna Lumley confirmed that a film version of Absolutely Fabulous was in the works, rumours began about who will take part in the project.

Although a number of celebrity cameos are expected to feature in the new film, it seems that show creator Jennifer Saunders also plans to cast nearly one hundred drag queens in the film, according to The Spectator.

The news was revealed after talent scouts began the hunt for ninety-six drag queens and “draggy camp fantastic looking queers” to join the cast.

On top of eight drag queens to perform individually – as well as seventy to be in an audience – the production team are also hoping to cast eighteen celebrity drag lookalikes.

The lookalikes are set to include Cher (obviously), Madonna and Dolly Parton impersonators.

Real life celebrities said to be taking part include One Direction’s Harry Styles – who will be playing the love interest of Lumley’s hard partying character, Patsy Stone.

The new film, written by Saunders – who plays the legendary showbiz PR Edina Monsoon – is also rumoured to include guest appearances from the likes of Kate Moss and Spice Girls Victoria Beckham Emma Bunton.

“We are all there, the same old gang,” Lumley said of the cast.

“Lots of people you will have seen in it before, I think we are going down to the south of France to do some of the shooting there

“It’ll all be shot on location. It is going to be ravishingly funny! Very gorgeous… and completely fabulous!”

Co-stars Julia Sawalha, June Whitfield and Jane Horrocks will return as well as Lumley and Saunders.

Earlier this year, Saunders said: “All the main characters and virtually everyone that’s ever been in the series” will be in the film.
