While the subway may be not the most romantic setting for a proposal, footage of the proposal has gone viral on social media.

Footage of the couple has appeared on Weibo, a service similar to Twitter, with its own hashtag: “Mid-autumn festival man proposes to his boyfriend.”

One user commented: “As usual, I was taking the subway home, but contrary to what I was expecting, I encountered a couple’s love… I think this is really incredible.”

The proposal causes such a statement, as gay couples are currently not able to marry there, and there is no legal recognition for cohabiting couples.

Despite the majority of commuters reactinv positively in the video, some are heard shouting “sin” or “disgusting”.
