Why does this LGBT power list only feature white people?

A list of influential LGBT people in Wales has been released – but fails to feature anyone who isn’t white.

WalesOnline today released its Pinc List (that’s Welsh for Pink List) ahead of Pride Cymru celebrations, celebrating 40 different people who have contributed to equality in the country.

However, the list of “40 unsung heroes who’ve put their heads above the parapet” has come under some scrutiny online for being “whiter than a UKIP manifesto“.

The list features names including MP Chris Bryant, trans activist Alex Drummond, and rugby referee Nigel Owens – but no non-white LGBT people appear to be present on the list.

Captain Hannah Winterbourne, the Army’s highest ranking transgender officer, tops the list.

It comes amid a boycott of an upcoming film based on the Stonewall riots, due to what activists say is ‘whitewashing’ of the movement.

After the first trailer was released, protesters complained that “black and brown transwomyn and drag queens” had not been recognised for their role – though the film’s director Rolund Emmerich and star Jeremy Irvine both deny this is the case.

Mr Irvine said: “To anyone with concerns about the diversity of the #StonewallMovie.

“I saw the movie for the first time last week and can assure you all that it represents almost every race and section of society that was so fundamental to one of the most important civil rights movements in living history.”
