Jeremy Clarkson ‘jokes’ that he and Richard Hammond are fudge packers

The Grand Tour host Jeremy Clarkson

Former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson is under fire – for claiming that he has got a job as a “packer” at a fudge factory.

The TV presenter was sacked by the BBC earlier this year over an infamous ‘fracas’ in which he punched producer Oisin Tymon.

However, Mr Clarkson – who is currently in Australia continuing the former Top Gear Live tour under the name ‘Clarkson, Hammond and May Live’ – raised eyebrows with a ‘joke’ on Twitter today.

Posting a photo alongside Richard Hammond at Margaret River Fudge Factory in Western Australia, he joked: “We have got jobs at last. Here. As packers.”

The term ‘fudge packer’ is a pejorative slur used to refer to gay men.

TV presenter Sue Perkins was earlier this year forced to take a break from Twitter after she received death threats over her becoming favourite to host Top Gear.

However, Chris Evans was eventually appointed as the show’s new host – and is holding “open auditions” for other members of the team, to replace Richard Hammond and James May.

Clarkson had been accused of homophobia in the past, and apologised last year for a tweet he sent containing a picture of himself with a sign saying “gay c*nt”.

Clarkson tweeted the image featuring fellow Top Gear host James May, along with the caption “Sadly, I fell asleep on the plane.”

Piers Morgan tweeted to criticise the Top Gear presenter for the tweet, noting his “flabby neck”.

In 2010, Clarkson was criticised for appearing on the show with Alistair Campbell, and in a scene which was deleted saying: “I demand the right not to be bummed.”
