Hardware store in Tennessee erects ‘No Gays Allowed’ sign

After the Supreme Court ruled last week that all couples, straight or gay, have a constitutional right to marry, one hardware store owner thinks that’s just not on.

Jeff Amyx, who owns Amyx Hardware and Roofing Supplies in Grainger County, Tennessee, put up the sign, according to WBIR news, “because gay and lesbian couples are against his religion”.

Speaking on Monday, he said he had realised that gay and lesbian people weren’t afraid to stand up for what they believe in.

He said that had inspired him to show Christian people should do the same.

“They gladly stand for what they believe in, why can’t I? They believe their way is right, I believe it’s wrong. But yet I’m going to take more persecution than them because I’m standing for what I believe in,” Amyx said.

The sign is staying up, said Amyx, who has no plans to take it down.

Since the sign went up, around three-hundred people have joined a ‘Boycott Amyx Hardware’ Facebook page.
