Jack Black has revealed that he is a huge fan of Amazon’s transgender-based TV show Transparent.

The comedy series, which aired its first season last year to rave reviews, features Jeffrey Tambor as transgender woman Moira, who comes out to her children later in life.

It won praise at the time for shedding light on people who transition later in life – and has won support from School of Rock star Jack Black.

The actor and comedian told the Metro: “I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to see Transparent, but that’s one of the great risk-takers.

“Way ahead of the curve. I love that show.”

He praised Amazon and other subscription services for taking more risks on TV, saying: “As far as trying new things, yeah it seems like that’s the job for the HBOs of the world.”

The show’s creator Jill Soloway has previously hinted at plans for the show’s next season, which is due out this autumn, to feature Caitlyn Jenner.

She said: “I spoke to Caitlyn, and she told me that she saw the show; and I talked to Kim Kardashian, and she told me they all watched it together.”

“I don’t know if she’d want to act, but we definitely want to incorporate the fact that she came out into this season.

“Just to have that base conversation somewhere in a scene, for sure.”

She added: “I feel like the change in the transgender community has happened because of the lived lives of trans people. There is a sea change happening right now, a revolution and we’re definitely in there a part of it.
