JK Rowling brilliantly put down this vile homophobic church
Harry Potter author JK Rowling has become known for giving brilliant responses on social media, and this Twitter response to the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) certainly makes the grade.
The adamantly homophobic WBC earlier this week threatened to picket the imaginary wedding of Dumbledore and Gandalf, after the church read on PinkNews that Rowling had endorsed the marriage of her gay character, Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore and Gandalf, of Lord of the Rings, who is played in the films by out actor Sir Ian McKellan.
Rowling responded to a tweet from WBC to say: “Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls.”
Brilliant.
Rowling was later asked by a fan why she would draw attention to the WBC, a question often faced by PinkNews, to which she responded: “I don’t care about WBC. I think it’s important that scared gay kids who aren’t out yet see hate speech challenged.”
The Westboro Baptist Church earlier this week inadvertently declared its hatred for the Ivory Coast, after printing the Irish flag backwards on protest posters.
On Tuesday, the Catholic church also spoke out against Ireland’s historic vote, with the Vatican claiming it was a “defeat for humanity”.
