This 9-year-old’s ballot paper will melt your heart
They might be too young to vote, but that wasn’t going to stop them.
Found inside a ballot box in Dublin, the handwritten note reads “I vote yes. Carey. Age 9”.
Unfortunately Carey’s creative use of milk company notepaper rather than the official ballot paper – and the fact they are 9 – means their vote won’t be counted.
But early indications are overwhelmingly pointing towards a Yes vote, with a large turnout among young voters.

Many Irish citizens travelled back to Ireland to vote, as it is not possible to cast a vote from abroad, with emotional scenes in airports and train stations as large crowds flocked in. Under Irish law, citizens who have been out of Ireland for less than 18 months are still eligible vote.
