RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage has branded her former CBB housemate Katie Hopkins “gross” and “disgusting” after comments about immigrants.

The reality star – who finished fifth in Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year – made the comments about the controversial Sun columnist during an appearance on the RuPaul ‘What’s the Tee?’ podcast, after returning to the US.

Discussing her close friendship with Hopkins during the series, she told Rupaul: “I hate everything Hopkins stands for, I think it’s disgusting, but I went in there with a clean slate.

“The thing with Katie Hopkins and me is very simple. Humans can’t understand that I can separate who somebody is or what they do for a job.”

However, Visage then went on to heavily criticise recent comments made by Hopkins in her column for the Sun, in which she said she was unmoved by the plight of hundreds of migrants injured and killed while crossing the Mediterranean.

She continued: “But she has crossed a line for me, talking about the immigrants, saying that they should be killed. Human lives are human lives.

“We also have an issue with immigration in this country, but I don’t believe anybody should be at the border ready to shoot them in the head.

“Their lives are horrible in some of these countries, I would do the same thing and try to break free for a better life.

“For her to be there calling them all cockroaches and saying they should all be killed is disgusting and I can’t support it.”

Earlier this month, Hopkins caused outrage by tweeting: “No, I don’t care. Show me pictures of coffins, show me bodies floating in water, play violins and show me skinny people looking sad. I still don’t care.”

Visage continued: “Why she does it as a living and can lay her down at night and can get paid for it and be okay – it’s hate money, its like blood diamonds.

“It’s gross. But its her choice not mine. I like her as a human and person because she is funny and witty and gets it. What she does for a living – disgusting.”

She also said that she found forming a friendship with Hopkins easier, because of the job that she does and the drag queens that she works with.

She continued: “Honey, I work with drag queens. Which is why I have more time for people like Katie. She is funny, outrageous and kind. I am not defending her, but in that moment I felt okay with who I was.

“I work with drag queens, who are the irreverent, politically incorrect human beings, so for me not to have a little bit of give with her would be hypocritical because of what I do for a living.”

Her long-time friend and co-host Rupaul agreed with her, saying: “If I was in that house, I would have aligned myself with Katie Hopkins.”

Earlier this week, Hopkins was criticised for suggesting #FindMike campaigner Jonny Benjamin should have jumped off Waterloo bridge after seeing advertisements for the upcoming documentary Stranger on the Bridge.

Hopkins, who is no stranger to controversy, tweeted saying: “ENOUGH with the ads for #strangeronthebridge Starting to wish the sympathetic stranger had let him jump”.

Nick Clegg was also asked this week whether he could “kill Katie Hopkins”. The 14-year-old schoolboy who made the request was praised by Mr Clegg who said it was a “brilliant question”.
