In a symbol of solidarity with the LGBT community, the Obama administration has unveiled a gender-neutral bathroom within the White House.

The bathroom, described as “all-gender”, is situated in the Eisenhower Executive office Building, which is next door to the West Wing, and will be used by employees and White House guests.

“The White House allows staff and guests to use restrooms consistent with their gender identity, which is in keeping with the Administration’s existing legal guidance on this issue and consistent with what is required by the Executive Order that took effect today for federal contractors,” White House spokesman Jeff Tiller told CNN.

“In addition, an all-gender restroom is also available in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which provides guests and staff an additional option.”

The move is one of several recently which show support for the LGBT community.

President Barack Obama earlier today called for an end to “conversion” therapies which aim to change the sexual orientation or gender identity of LGBT youths.

In addition, an Executive Order signed by Obama that outlaws anti-LGBT discrimination among federal contractors yesterday came into effect.
