Blaze destroys historic gay landmarks at New York’s Fire Island
At least two well-known landmarks in a historic gay resort at New York’s Fire Island have been destroyed in a fire which swept through this morning.
Firefighters sustained minor injuries during the fire on Friday morning, as investigators worked to determine the cause.
Assistant Fire Chief Craig Williams of Cherry Grove, said the fast moving fire injured three firefighters.
The apartment block known as Holly House, and the Grove Hotel were both destroyed in the fire, as well as two private homes. Three more homes were damaged.
Luckily the block, hotel and homes were all unoccupied during the fire.
The Cherry Grove area is known as an area popular with the New York gay community.
