LGBT in UKIP has condemned a group of protesters who chased Nigel Farage out of a pub.

HIV activist Dan Glass today organised an anti-UKIP protest that targeted the UKIP leader while he was having lunch with his family in the Queen’s Head in Downe, Orpington.

A group of protesters – from a number of anti-UKIP groups – chased Mr Farage out of the pub this afternoon in fancy dress, while his children “fled and hid”.

The protesters had initially claimed that Mr Farage was on his own – but later clarified they had seen “a blonde haired woman leaving with two children”.

Nathan Garbutt of the party’s LGBT group said: “We strongly believe in freedom of speech and democracy but any group of people who get off on scaring children out of a public building are pretty low.

“The vast majority of the LGBT community what ever political views they hold will be disgusted by the behaviour of ‘Stand up to UKIP’ today.

“We are sending our best wishes to Nigel Farage and his family.”

Mr Farage previously branded the protesters “scum”, saying: “I hope these ‘demonstrators’ are proud of themselves. My children were so scared by their behaviour that they ran away to hide.

“A relative has gone to look for them, and they are not yet at home. These people are scum.”

The children have since returned home.

When asked in October which kinds of people should be allowed to enter the UK, Farage replied: “People who do not have HIV, to be frank. That’s a good start.”

Mr Glass said: “UKIP are a con. They pretend to be anti-establishment but this couldn’t be further from the truth.

“By wrongfully shifting the blame for the economic crisis onto immigrants they have let the bankers off the hook.

“That is why so many diverse communities have taken our cultures to the heart of where they exist – Nigel Farage’s local pub. We will not succumb to their prejudice.”
