Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson has admitted that she used drugs when she was younger.

The out politician was questioned about her past drug use during a debate at Glasgow University’s Queen Margaret Union earlier this week, alongside SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy, and Scottish Lib Dem leader William Rennie.

Despite mostly opposing legalisation, all four Scottish leaders admitted to trying drugs.

Speaking after Nicola Sturgeon admitted to trying marijuana “once”, the Tory MSP joked: “I went to Buckhaven High School, what do you think?

“I’m with Nicola – once or twice. It made me feel really sick.”

Ms Sturgeon interjected: “I said once!”

The comments came after Ms Davidson opposed the legalisation of marijuana, saying: “I think some things are worth more than money, and the health of our nation is one of them.

“There are plenty of studies in medical journals around the world published by universities, which show a direct link between cannabis use and damage to mental health.

“We’ve been having a huge discussion in our country, both up here and down south, about what more we can do to help people in this country.

“I don’t think that legalising cannabis and seeing greater use of it will help on that front.”

Ruth Davidson recently joined other party leaders in condemning comments made by Scottish UKIP leader David Coburn, after he compared SNP politician Humza Yousaf to terrorist Abu Hamza.

Mr Coburn was not at the debate.
